PADS Instructor’s Assistant

Pacific Assistance Dogs (PADS) raises and trains assistance dogs for people who are facing the daily challenges of life with a physical disability or who are Deaf or hard of hearing. These highly skilled dogs allow our clients to experience a greater level of independence and an enhanced quality of life. PADS is a charitable, non-profit organization located in Burnaby, B.C., with an office in Calgary. PADS services people in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. PADS relies entirely on fundraising, grants and donations to finance the care and training of our amazing dogs.

Position Overview and Requirements: Job Duties: 75% of the job is working in the kennel environment, while up to 25% is working with training of dogs under supervision of the Instructor. Please send your resume with a covering letter to kevin@pads.ca Posting will close on Aug. 30th 2010

Volunteer Opportunities


Position: General Board Member Position 2010/2011 – Greater Vancouver
Description:The society is aiming to fill the vacant board position with a candidate who has one or more of the desired skill sets listed below. The Board is keen to welcome fresh ideas and perspectives as well as expand opportunities for the organization.

We are specifically looking for people interested in, or with experience in: Directors develop and monitor the agency's long-term strategic direction. They establish policy, plan for the future, raise funds, and ensure that adequate resources are available for the agency's ongoing work.
A strong staff and leadership volunteer team operates the day to day functions of the society with the Board of Directors supplying the mandates, goals and high-level operating decisions.
Directors are elected for a two-year term and must be members in good standing of the organization (PADS membership details at www.pads.ca ) All directors are required to sign a confidentiality agreement.
Board meetings are usually the third Thursday of the month except for August. Directors are expected to attend at least 9 of 11 meetings, take an active role in fundraising and sponsorship activities, communicate with the Executive Director and other board members by email and telephone at times other than meetings and take an active interest in strategic planning for the overall success of the society as the main goal.
Volunteers Required: 1
Skills and Experience: Entrepreneur; Fundraising; Government Relations; Construction; Experience working on non-profit boards required; Completion of Board Match Program required; Fund development experience an asset; Experience in working on committees; Willing to commit time (beyond attending meetings), energy and expertise to further the goals of the organization; Be strongly motivated to serve the various communities benefitting the use of assistance dogs.
Reimbursements: Mileage
Training Provided: We have a Volunteer Training Program that all new volunteers are required to participate in and we also offer ongoing training.
Benefits to Volunteer: You will be joining an exciting organization as we move forward with a new communications and fund development campaign to attract new members, increase donations and raise funds for a new facility.
