This month we focused on assessing placement options for AVERY and are looking at which careers and environments he is best suited for. We are now considering an AFD or PTSD placement for Avery, so he has been on numerous field trips this month to schools and other facilities to see which environment he prefers. Avery continues to take his skills on the road, working on all learned cues in various locations with varying levels of distraction. Avery has particularly been working on the ‘rest’ cue and sharpening his duration ‘wait’ at thresholds.

  • Skills being learned: ‘Rest’, duration ‘wait’ at thresholds, sharpening all skills and obedience in various locations with varying levels of distraction.
  • Recent field trips: Ambleside Park, IKEA, local secondary school, Lougheed Mall, Metrotown Mall, Brentwood Town Center, SkyTrain, local grocery store, PetSmart.
  • Possible behavior challenges: Dog distraction, particularly when other dogs are excited in his direction, olfactory distraction.
  • Potential career path: AFD or PTSD
