The “big guy” on the team continues to cheer up everyone he meets with his goofy wiggle and enthusiastic smile. BURKE has been working hard on learning how to target people that he is greeting with his side rather than to go in for the hands (there might be snacks in those!) This month he has spent some time in a local high school to see how that environment would suit him and he thought it was the best. He loves the routine; people come by, he gets scratches and snuggles – he didn’t even have to get out of bed for that! – and then he gets to go back to nap time. He is practicing his obedience skills every day and we are hoping to do a public access test for AFD placement soon.

  • Skills being learned: Hand signals, chin targeting to leg, body targeting for greetings.
  • Recent field trips: Central Memorial High School. Sue Higgins Park, PetSmart, Petland.
  • Possible behavior challenges: Some cape sensitivity, likes to mouth hands gently when greeting people.
  • Potential career path: AFD
