MARA is hard at work on retrieve foundations, working on getting a calm steady hold when she is both still and when she is walking while carrying simple items. She is practicing all her other skills so far with Ashley and with new handlers and is maintaining her excitement for the work. Ashley and her volunteer helpers have also been running all dogs through Ashley’s “obstacle courses” that have the dog practice default ‘leave its’, obedience, skills, walking on different surfaces, proprioception, and strengthening exercises. Mara enjoyed some nice rest and relaxation with sitters over the holiday break and is keen to get working again in the new year!

  • Skills being learned: Retrieving simple items, duration carry, ‘my lap’, ‘foot.’
  • Recent field trips: Lougheed Mall, 8 Rinks, various assorted training field trips.
  • Possible behavior challenges: Barking at people entering a space.
  • Potential career path: Service

Thank you again for all your support of Advanced Dog Mara!
