VALOUR has been spending this month getting to know Apprentice Instructor Ashley. Ashley, with the assistance of Jessica and several dedicated advanced training volunteers, will be continuing Valour’s training as her advanced trainer. Valour likes to be near her people and sometimes vocalizes when not as close as she’d like to be. She has been practicing being quiet in various settling scenarios close and far from her people.  Valour has a beautifully started retrieve and is eager to show it off. She has been working on clarity of foot and nose targets and transitioning her existing knowledge into the foundations of various service skills and she off to a strong start! Ashley will continue to work with Valour on skills and settling and hopes to see her keep up the good work.

  • Skills being learned: ‘Push’, ‘button’, ‘light’, settling quietly apart from handlers.
  • Recent field trips: Ikea, Robert Burnaby Park, various training field trips.
  • Possible behavior challenges: Separation anxiety, barrier frustration, default ‘leave it’ for food on the floor when excited.
  • Potential career path: Service, PTSD or AFD

Thank you again for all your support of Advanced Dog Valour!
