This month VESPER went on a training road trip with Ashley, Crystal and Lady to Vancouver Island to train with Advanced Instructor Rob at his home-based facility. She had a great time checking out the new environment and meeting new friends Hector, Vimy and Mocha. Vesper is unsure and activated around other dogs sometimes. This tends to happen most if the dogs look very different to labs or goldens. She is currently doing BAT work and going out on walks to work on staying in the “green zone” while expanding her understanding of what shapes and sizes dogs come in. She has been continuing with skills while focusing on a calm and steady hold for retrieve and doing this while standing still and when walking next to her handler.
- Skills being learned: ‘Behind’, ‘up’, ‘my lap’, retrieve foundations.
- Recent field trips: New Westminster Quay, various dog parks and field trips on Vancouver Island.
- Possible behavior challenges: Unsure around some dogs, settling in public, sniffing, lunging for food on the floor.
- Potential career path: Service, PTSD or AFD
Thank you again for all your support of Advanced Dog Vesper!
