Meet COPPER
What’s wonderful about COPPER
Copper’s calm, gentle, and friendly nature makes her a wonderful companion in any setting. She loves people and her natural curiosity and passion for exploration make her a lovely little adventure buddy. Copper’s strengths are evident in her excellent training and obedience – she loves to please her person through following cues! This sweet girl is attentive and responsive, which makes her easy to manage both indoors and outdoors. Copper is happy to join you on hikes, visit the beach, or curl up with you for a quiet day indoors. Her current caretaker has described her an exceptional dog who has been very easy to raise.
WHERE COPPER NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
One of Copper’s biggest weaknesses is her anxiety around other dogs. She doesn’t love to share her toys or engage in roughhousing with dogs, and in the past this has led to altercations – upsetting for all involved! For this reason, it would be best if she were the only dog in her forever home. Preferably, she belongs in a house without young children as well due to her anxiety. With careful introduction, Copper can make dog friends but is not a girl who will love the local dog park; sniffing on trails and beaches are more her speed. Squirrels and other wild animals are a source of excitement for Copper and she has been known to try to give chase! Her person has been working on managing this behavior and Copper is starting to stay calmer when her squirrel nemeses and other wildlife critters are around.
Home Requirements
Someone must be home for the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Copper alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Copper is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that she may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
