January was very pleasant weather-wise for the most part. Blazer joined us for many walks around our neighbourhood and accompanied us to the library, grocery store, Canadian Tire and a drive out to Carstairs.

Blazer looks forward to his weekly puppy classes, where he can see all of his PADS friends. While he still gets quite excited on arrival at puppy class, I’ve noticed improvements in his level of excitement. He seems to be starting to understand that puppy class is not about playing.

Blazer has watched me run on the treadmill with great interest since he was a young pup, so I taught him how to walk on it. He now sits or lays on it after my run is done and waits for me to come and start it for him. He is very good at staying in the middle of the belt and is quite pleased with himself when he gets off.

He had a couple of off-leash playdates this month with PADS Astro. Both dogs are getting better with recall and checking in with me and Jen. They never venture too far afield and sometimes play a bit too close to our legs, which has almost knocked us over on occasion! Astro surprised Blazer with an early birthday present of fancy, delicious peanut butter cups and bacon chews. Blazer is always happy to receive gifts of food that aren’t his ordinary kibble (although he has no complaints about that either), and he ate them with great enthusiasm.
