Meet Toad
What’s wonderful about Toad
Toad is a total people-lover with a heart made for connection. He adores humans of all ages and has done beautifully with everyone from young children to teens to adults, greeting the world with open, joyful enthusiasm. He’s an affectionate cuddle bug who also has plenty of pep—Toad would thrive with an active household that enjoys getting out and about and bringing their dog along for the fun. He loves outdoor adventures and truly shines in off-leash settings, happily exploring alongside other dogs and showing off his excellent recall. Smart, eager, and highly motivated by treats, Toad picks things up quickly and enjoys learning with his people. He’s also a wonderful travel companion, content to ride in the backseat on car trips, quietly watching the scenery pass by.
Where Toad Needs Extra Support
As wonderful as Toad is, he does best with some clear boundaries and the right environment. His excitement around people and other dogs can make his greetings a little jumpy, and the outside world can be very distracting—there’s simply so much he wants to see and do. While Toad enjoys off-leash adventures with other dogs, he does not like sharing his toys and would be happiest as the only pet in the home. Most importantly, Toad cannot live with cats—he finds them far too exciting and is unable to settle around them, making a cat-free home an absolute requirement. He may bark to alert you to sudden or unexpected sounds, such as someone knocking at the door. Toad tolerates baths and can be a bit wiggly during brushing, but he’s cooperative with nail trims, especially when rewarded with a treat after each paw. With the right match, Toad’s big heart and joyful spirit will truly shine.
Home Requirements
Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Toad alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Toad is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
