What’s wonderful about Grant

Grant is a bright, affectionate, and energetic dog who thrives on connection with his people! He’s a social boy who truly enjoys the company of other dogs and has learned a great deal from living alongside calm, confident canine friends. With the right dog friend, he loves to run, wrestle, and play, but he’s also capable of settling and sharing space peacefully. On walks, Grant has made beautiful progress in showing respect to even the most rambunctious dogs. Grant is very smart and eager to engage with the people around him, and he responds best to consistent cues and structured activities. On walks he generally does well, and his recall and leash skills continue to improve with practice. He’s a curious, adventurous dog who would love an active household that includes him in daily life and outdoor fun. Once he warms up to you, he will follow you to the ends of the Earth and back. 

WHERE GRANT NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT

Grant will do best in a home that can offer patience, consistency, and a willingness to continue supporting the training he has already begun and thrived in. Grant is a sensitive dog that finds big transitions and alone time stressful. He will thrive in a family with someone home most of the day, and who are ready to build confidence through separation anxiety training. As a young dog, he struggled with sharing his favorite items and toys and liked to guard them. However, he has been committed to a training plan that has really helped him learn how to share! He rarely exhibits resource guarding behaviours these days but will need continued support to keep up his good behaviour. To help set him up for continued success, we recommend an adult-only home without young children. Grant is a very social dog and has thrived in a home with another steady, well-mannered dog; having a canine companion helps him feel more settled and engaged, and can make training and daily routines more enjoyable for him. With the right environment, ongoing guidance, and a family committed to his continued growth, Grant has all the makings of a deeply loyal and joyful companion.

 

Home Requirements

Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Grant alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.

A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Grant is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).

Therapy Work: Due to his demand barking and high energy, PADS does NOT give Grant approval to be certified as a volunteer pet visitation dog (i.e St Johns Ambulance/Pets and Friends, etc).
