Meet HONEY IV
What’s wonderful about Honey IV
Honey is located in the Okanagan. Please note: Preference will be given to local applicants.
Honey is a delightful blend of calm, fun-loving, goofy, joyful, playful, and energetic.
She is a true working dog at heart and thrives when she has a job to do. She likes staying busy, learning new things, and interactive games.
Honey is looking for an active, outdoorsy family who enjoy nature walks and spending time outside as much as she does. She loves tug toys, playtime, and spending time with her people and doggy friends. She is an excellent travel companion, happily snoozing or gazing out the window on car rides, watching the world pass by.
Honey is naturally drawn to kids but can be overly enthusiastic with greetings. She prefers affection on her own terms and does not enjoy being hugged or restrained. For this reason, she would do best in a home with an active retired couple who can her give her the companionship and engagement she craves, or with older children who respect her boundaries.
Like her name, Honey is sweet, loving, and devoted. Rather than cuddling, she prefers to show her affection by bringing you a favourite toy or quietly sitting on your feet. While she enjoys swimming, her skills are still a work in progress. With time and practice, her natural athleticism should help her become a confident and capable swimmer.
WHERE HONEY IV NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
Honey is a sweet, happy girl who loves making new friends. She can become quite distracted by other dogs while out on walks. She will do best with a committed handler who will continue to work on her loose leash skills with engagement and distraction. Without guidance, she’s likely to lunge toward other dogs in an enthusiastic attempt to say hello.
Honey is incredibly friendly and eager to meet people, but she occasionally struggles to keep her paws to herself. She may jump up or become a little mouthy when excited. Giving her a toy to hold and asking for a sit usually redirects her energies but her future family will need to continue to work on these skills.
While she settles well in her kennel at night, she shows signs of separation anxiety if left home alone in a locked kennel and will loudly vocalize her displeasure until her family returns. Honey will need a home where she is only left alone for short periods and where she is given constructive outlets to channel her energy.
Medical Note
Honey has been diagnosed with mild bilateral hip dysplasia, though she is currently not showing any symptoms and moves comfortably in her day-to-day life. It’s difficult to predict how this may progress over time. She may continue to remain symptom-free, or she may develop some discomfort as she ages. Her future family should be prepared to monitor her mobility and support her as needed, whether that’s through maintaining a healthy lifestyle, thoughtful exercise, or guidance from a veterinarian.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Honey IV is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that she may not be used by other agencies for other working roles.
