Meet Felix

What’s wonderful about Felix

Felix is  strong, energetic, inquisitive boy. He’s a happy dog who loves his human and canine friends. Felix enjoys keeping his mind and body busy with sniffing, playing, and solving food puzzles – anything for food!
Felix is wonderful with the cues he learned during his education with PADS, has good house manners, and is even happy having his nails trimmed. Felix is a social butterfly and can be TOO enthusiastic in greeting and sometimes jumps up at people. Felix’s feelings about dogs are about the same as his feelings about people: he loves them and can’t wait to meet them! Again, the initial greeting is very exciting for him, and once he’s past that he is lovely with other dogs.
Felix loves to go on off-leash walks in nature where he can run and sniff. He continues to become more and more cuddly as he matures – who knows, once he becomes an official pet, he may even enjoy watching TV on the couch with you!

Felix is a wonderful, exuberant and active young dog who will make a fantastic addition to the right family. We can’t wait to find him the perfect partner to go on adventures with!

 WheRE Felix NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT

During training, Felix’s biggest challenge was his excitability and short attention span. Loose leash walking is not his strongest suit due to his lack of focus and excitability: he’s got a whole world he wants to explore! Giving him ample opportunity to ‘be a dog’ off leash and reinforcing his loose leash walking with kibble will help to grow this life skill. His enthusiasm at seeing other dogs while on leash can present as barking and lunging.  He’s not trying to be difficult in these situations, but genuinely struggles to focus and contain his excitement!

Felix grew up in a home with children and has done very well with them, however, during a recent trial adoption he did unfortunately have an incident with a child and bit them on the arm.  There were no injuries sustained, and we don’t believe this to be indicative of his feelings towards children overall.

Home Requirements

Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Felix alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.

A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Felix is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
