Happy New Year from Thorin! Thorin spent the past month with his advanced dog sitter, having many great experiences. He travelled to Vancouver Island to spend time with friends and their dogs over the New Year’s weekend and to Sechelt for a weekend getaway later in the month. He was a great guest and got on well with his hosts, other visitors, and many dogs (four on the first weekend and six plus a cat on the second). Everyone had a lot of fun. When not travelling, he has enjoyed regular walks in Pacific Spirit Park, where his friendly exuberance brings smiles to many faces and leads to lots of happy, friendly play with other dogs. His frequent check-ins and excellent recall make it a pleasure for his sitter to take him for off-leash walks.

Thorin regularly visits the gym, where he practices waiting calmly in a down while his sitter works out. He’s been a guest at two different elementary schools this month, where he was a big hit with the students and behaved very appropriately around them. He makes weekly visits to Peak House, a halfway house for youth dealing with addiction issues, where his friendly personality and willingness to cuddle and play provide welcome support for the youth.

Thorin has also been working hard on his skills. He’s learning to manage exceptionally well in high-distraction environments, staying focused on his handler and staying in maintaining his position when asked. For example, he stays on his bed, and at the same time, other dogs play nearby. He’s also made excellent progress in controlling his exuberance when meeting new people and is always eager to work and learn!

Thank you for supporting Advanced Dog Thorin! It is greatly appreciated in achieving our goals.
