What’s wonderful about TAURUS
work for his food. He does have a good sniffer on him – he would love to learn some games that encourage him to use this superpower. Taurus has lovely house-manners with his human and canine family members, and has grown up in a busy household with kids. He is a pro at ‘supervising’ hockey games from the sidelines. Taurus has worked hard with his loose leash walking and it shows, although he still struggles with it when there are other pups around. He has learned many other skills during his PADS education and can’t wait to show them off to his new family, and maybe learn some new tricks with you. His favourite pastimes include playing tug, walks in nature, sniffing (everything), and playing with other dogs.
WHERE TAURUS NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
As wonderful as Taurus is, he still has his weaknesses; he’s a bit of a scaredy cat! He does bark if he hears ‘scary’ noises outside the house, or if he sees a person or odd looking object that seem questionable to him. This isn’t persistent, and he is happy to be redirected with reassurance, kibble or a food toy.
In November, Taurus underwent surgery to fix a patella luxation on his left back leg. In laymen’s terms, he had a kneecap that would ‘pop out’ or move out of its normal location . The surgery went very well and Taurus has recovered admirably. Going forwards we do not anticipate him to have any further issues with this knee and he is cleared to live life as a normal, healthy and active young dog.
Home Requirements
Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Taurus alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Taurus is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
