Meet REEF II

What’s wonderful about REEF

Mr Reef is a gentle giant who has earned the title of being the smartest boy that his puppy raiser has raised. He loves to be with his people and work, although his independent nature may occasionally come through! For the most part, Reef has learned how to settle around other people and will not say hi until instructed to do so. Joining in to play with other dogs and his people is one of his favorite activities! Reef may get timid around bigger dogs but he is a very playful boy.  He has loved going for off leash walks with his person and always stayed close to him. Reef has lived in an apartment downtown, and in a quieter suburban area. He’s had experience living with other dogs, cats, and a wheelchair user. He has impeccable leash manners! This goober has so much love and compassion to offer to everybody that he meets.

WHERE REEF NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT

Reef is skeptical of certain street gates and platforms on walks. His stress bucket fills quickly when he is in a busy and active environment and it may take him extra time to settle. New people and other dogs may cause Reef to be a bit excitable and it can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes for him to settle. Due to his tendency for wanting to join in on the action, Reef will be more successful with an adopter who can provide a relatively quite environment. Reef has struggled with skin and ear issues and unfortunately, we believe it is due to environmental allergies. Reef  will need care throughout his life to minimize allergy flare ups.  Currently, Reef is mostly symptomatic in the spring, and is easily managed with topical medications. Otherwise Reef lives life as a normal young dog.

Home Requirements

Someone must be home for the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Reef alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.

A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning that they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Reef II is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
