Meet AURORA
What’s wonderful about Aurora
Aurora is a social butterfly with lots of love to share. This sweetheart is extremely affectionate and cuddly, belly rubs and snuggles are some of her favourite things! Aurora’s party girl energy makes her the perfect companion for any adventure, and she is happy to tag along for car rides, trail walks, beach trips, etc. However, she is also happy to have low-key days and settles beautifully while her people are working on the computer or doing other household tasks. Like a true lab, she loves to work and learn. Her obedience skills are wonderful and with her drive to work, she would thrive in activities like agility, nose work, anything that allows her brain to be active!
WHERE AURORA NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
One of her biggest kryptonite’s is that she loves to steal exciting items like dishcloths, shoes, kids’ toys, and anything else that she can get her paws on – whether it is on the floor or on the counter. She struggles to share ‘her’ possessions with people. When pressured, Aurora has growled, snarled and snapped at her person’s hands in warning. This is something that we take quite seriously, and Aurora is working hard at learning that it’s safe to give up possessions. She is continuing to progress with this important life skill and does extremely well with trading the item for high value treats or toys. Details on resource guarding and her current training plan will be shared with potential adopters. Aurora tends to lead the way and get distracted by other dogs on leashed walks, although she has improved significantly with her dog distraction. Unseen noises can excite her, and she can be very vocal when excited, she has so much to say! Despite her challenges, Aurora is a fun-loving girl who will make a lovely pet.
Home Requirements
Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Aurora alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Aurora is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
