Meet DOLCE

What’s wonderful about Dolce

Dolce is a very smart, silly and active dog with lots of energy. He enjoys games and often makes them up on the fly – such as hide and seek. He loves his dog friends and will often look to them for guidance. Although he can get quite excitable around other dogs, Dolce is easily redirected and calms down quickly. This lovable giant is happy to stay home and curl up with his human for afternoon snuggles or go out on exciting outings like off leash trail walks, swimming, or neighborhood walks on a long line. His excellent recall makes him the perfect adventure buddy! This lovable giant is very cuddly and loves to show off by summersaulting into people’s laps. His obedience skills are excellent and like a true lab, he loves to learn. Dolce has shown so much improvement in leaving items in exchange for kibble. He does well in the car and will follow his people to the ends of the earth.

WHERE Dolce NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT

This guy has so much to say: He has a repertoire of whines, groans and woofs to communicate his needs to his people – play, pets, and pee breaks all have a voice! Despite his talkative nature, Dolce is a sensitive dog who responds well to people with a compassionate and calm demeanor. He is a bit of a ladies man and in a group setting gravitates towards women. A typical young lab, he loves to sniff and can pull on leash. However, his off leash manners are impeccable and he thrives on forest walks. He is a cuddly, friendly guy and has spent time in households with multiple dogs. At home, Dolce struggles to share ‘his’ possessions with people. He has a weakness for soft textiles – socks, pillows and stuffies are at risk of being thieved and guarded! When pressured, Dolce has snapped at his person’s hands in warning. This is something that we take quite seriously, and Dolce is working hard at learning that it’s safe to give up possessions. He is continuing to progress with this important life skill. Details on resource guarding and his current training plan will be shared with potential adopters. While Dolce loves children, because of his challenges surrounding resource guarding, we prefer a home with no young children. Despite this struggle, Dolce remains a sweet puppy at heart: he is a love bug who lives for belly rubs and will ‘trust fall’ backwards into your lap for cuddles.

Home Requirements

Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Dolce alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.

A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Dolce is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that she may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
