Meet Draco

What’s wonderful about Draco

Draco is a bright, eager boy with a huge heart and an even bigger enthusiasm for life. He shines in calm, predictable environments where he can focus and enjoy time with his people. He loves working for treats, happily trades items when asked, and doesn’t guard his food or toys. Draco can be quite sweet and playful with gentle greetings, and he settles beautifully at night in his kennel. He’s curious, goofy, and full of personality — the kind of dog who finds joy in small routines, cozy beds, and being included in whatever his person is doing. He has beautifully shared his space with a 13 year old and is happy to curl up or play with teenagers. With patience and reassurance, he has even made progress on some of his “big feelings” around new experiences, like tricky stairs or puddles. He truly wants to do well, and he tries his best when he feels safe and supported.

Where Draco Needs Extra Support

Draco is also a lot of dog, and he will thrive with someone who understands that big love sometimes comes with big energy. He is very loyal and grows attached to people quickly. He can become overly excited in new or stimulating situations, which leads to barking, jumping, and struggling to settle. When he wants to interact or can’t join the fun, he can voice his feelings loudly — whether that’s “FOMO barking,” frustration barking, or trying to encourage his people to hurry up. He is still learning how to navigate stairs with confidence, how to greet people without launching into their arms, and how to stay calm when life gets exciting. Nail trims require patience, and he may get the zoomies at night, occasionally grabbing soft items off of the counter. Because he’s large, bouncy, and easily energized, a home without small children, elderly individuals, cats, or other energetic dogs would be best. Draco will flourish with someone who’s dog-savvy, consistent, and ready to guide him with love, humour, and structure as he grows into his wonderful potential.

Home Requirements

Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Draco alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.

A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.

Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Draco is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
