Meet mara ii
What’s wonderful about mara
Mara’s affectionate nature makes her a very cuddly dog who enjoys being close to her people and prefers gentle pets and belly rubs. She has shown incredible progress in various areas of her training! This includes her leash skills and adhering to established rules around house manners. Although Mara has shared her home with other dogs, she would do better in a home with older dogs and no young kids due to her arousal levels – she loves to play! Her ideal person will be someone willing to provide consistent training and lots of patience. An active home would be best, Mara’s big energy makes her an excellent companion on any adventure. Mara has lots of love to give and will follow her people to the ends of the earth once mutual trust has been earned.
sWHERE MARA NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
As loving as Mara is, she struggles greatly with adjusting to new environments and handlers. This has caused displays of stress and fear during transitions. She is cautious about body handling, especially during nail trims. Patience is key in establishing a bond with Mara, pushing her boundaries with body handling has led to growling and snapping on occasion – an unpleasant experience for all! She has a history of fear related to stairs and loading into vehicles, which requires time and patience to overcome. Her stress bucket is quick to overflow, and she may show anxious behaviors when overstimulated. With a tendency to chase smaller animals, particularly cats and puppies, Mara would do best in a home with older dogs or no other animals. These challenges require a patient person who is knowledgeable in canine body language and stress signals to help her build confidence and manage her fears.
Home Requirements
Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Mara alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Mara is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that she may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
