Meet PUZZLE
What’s wonderful about PUZZLE
Puzzle is a well-mannered and handsome guy who is eager to learn new skills. Like most labs, he LOVES treats and tends to learn best when food is used for training. He likes being close to his person but is not overly affectionate or cuddly. He has a quiet way of showing his love and enjoys sitting close by or on your feet. He does best with someone who understands that he values his alone time and space (taking time for self care is important – even for dogs!). Puzzle is slow to warm up but you know you’ve made it into his circle of trust when he leans into your legs.
Puzzle is an active guy and will do best with an adventurous and outdoorsy family who enjoy trail walks and have a large fenced yard. He likes to run and play with his friends and is well behaved on a loose leash and in the car. He will dip his paws like he’s testing bathwater, but if you’re looking for a swimming partner, Puzzle prefers to cheer his friends on from the water’s edge.
Puzzle settles well in the house and is happy to hang out on his bed with a favourite toy but he’s always ready for the next big adventure.
WHERE Puzzle NEEDS EXTRA SUPPORT
Puzzle’s alter ego is a Great Black Shark and he will take treats with enthusiasm and overzealousness! Watch your fingers! He struggles to contain his excitement and may greet his chosen human friends with the enthusiasm of someone who just won the lottery. Puzzle can be overly bossy with male dogs and may mount them. Supervision is required when other dogs are around. He tolerates his kennel but may need extra encouragement to go in. He is easily distracted by other dogs and it can be challenging to get his focus back in a timely manner. Patience is key! Although Puzzle thrives outdoors, he loves to pick up sticks and will need someone willing to help him work through this quirk.
Home RequireMents
Someone must be home the majority of the day. As with all PADS dogs that have spent their lives in the full-time company of their raisers, the living situation must accommodate not leaving Puzzle alone at home for more than 4 hours/day.
A stable home environment is required. This includes regular exercise, grooming, veterinarian care, food, as well as other necessary supplies and equipment.
Released PADS dogs do not have public access, meaning they are not allowed to enter malls, restaurants, hotels, or shops that are not pet friendly. They are only permitted to go to public locations that are pet dog friendly. Before releasing a dog from our program, PADS evaluates each dog for other working careers. Puzzle is not eligible for any other working career. Therefore, one of the conditions of adoption is that he may not be used by other agencies for other working roles (some exceptions may apply depending on the reasons of release, such as volunteering as a pet visitation dog).
