MEET TEAM ASLAN

Bringing Paw-sitivity to the Classroom

Aslan came to Carson Graham Secondary School at the start of this school year. Going into this process, I believed that a service dog could help the school community, but I never imagined the depth of the impact he would make. Aslan provides support to both students and staff, and the effects of his presence ripple out into the larger community.

He greets people at the start of the day and has supported students during times of stress and sadness. He has already helped many navigate incredibly difficult moments. His calm and happy demeanor never fails to ground those around him, and he gets regular visits throughout the day from both staff and students. He always brings a smile to people’s faces—whether we’re walking the hallways between classes or when his loud snoring lets students know what he thinks about my lessons!

The fact that he gets to work alongside his brother, Diego, here at the school is the icing on the cake. I can honestly say that Aslan’s presence at this school is a major reason some students are able to walk through the door each day. One student recently said, “These dogs are the best thing the school has ever done.”

On a personal level, Aslan has become a deeply loved member of my family. My kids adore him, and based on the joy he shows when we get home, I know the feeling is mutual. Aslan is my constant companion. He lifts my spirits at the end of a long day and reminds me that no matter what challenges lie ahead, we’ll face them together—with an open heart and a wagging tail.

I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to PADS and their sponsors. Thank you to his wonderful puppy-raising home and to the trainers. A special thank you to Emma Hedman, who trained him and has continued to offer support throughout. Thank you to all the advanced sitters who worked with him, and to Becky and Jen. Thank you to the Byrons, who opened my eyes to what a PADS dog can do for students. And thank you to all the volunteers who help make this community better. The good you all do cannot be overstated.

Thank you,

Christopher (PADS Client)
