MEET TEAM PYXIS

A Positive Impact at School and Beyond

As an accredited facility dog, Pyxis has become invaluable to my work at Revelstoke Secondary School and beyond. Together, we help students engage with their academics, provide proprioceptive input through play, and offer a grounding presence during times of dysregulation. Pyxis also serves as a powerful tool to connect with vulnerable youth and their families, helping to foster trust and build meaningful relationships. His calming presence creates a positive learning environment, supporting students as they manage stress, build confidence, and stay focused.

Beyond individual support, Pyxis and I work together to deliver curriculum related to mental health and strategies to improve well-being for youth. His presence makes learning about mental health more engaging and accessible, creating a safe space for students to explore and develop important coping skills.

In addition to our work at RSS, Pyxis provides what I like to call “velvet ear therapy” at Columbia River Counselling, where we support children, youth, and adults who have taken the courageous step to begin their healing journey. His gentle, playful, and intuitive nature offers comfort and connection to those navigating life’s challenges, making a profound difference in their lives.

Pyxis’ journey to becoming a facility dog would not have been possible without the generosity and dedication of his puppy raisers, sponsors, and all the incredible volunteers at PADS (Pacific Assistance Dogs Society). Their time, effort, and love have made an immeasurable impact—not just on Pyxis, but on the many lives he touches every day.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for helping Pyxis bring comfort, encouragement, and joy to the students of Revelstoke Secondary School and the clients of Columbia River Counselling. Your support has made a difference, one wagging tail at a time! – Dana, Pyxis’ Partner
