ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

Puppy-Raising is a critical stage in the life of a PADS dog -- it's where our pups get exposed to all kinds of different environments and situations (socialisation), learn how to respond to basic cues like 'Sit' and 'Heel' (skills), and get used to behaving well both at home and out in the world (manners).

During their 14-18 months in the Puppy-Raising Program, our dogs are cared for by our dedicated volunteer Raisers and Sitters, under the supervision and instruction of our staff trainers. In the blink of an eye, they go from being tiny puppies just getting used to being on leash to fully-grown young adult dogs who are ready for whatever life may throw at them! #LifeOfaPADSDog

Mobility Team Silver and PADS Trek are loving life together, and Silver sent us this wonderful message on the difference having a PADS dog has made in her life:

"Struggling with an invisible disability, It's all too common to feel invisible as a person as well. With that invisibility life can be even an harder struggle than just being differently abled. The mental, emotional and spiritual toll is just as hard, if not harder, than the physical toll.

Having Trek has changed my life in the wonderful expected ways but also in unexpected joyous ways. Every day we are met with smiles. I've met neighbours and strangers with great stories and open hearts. I've seen a kindness in people I thought was gone, especially in these harder times. Now I am seeking outings every day, rather than being housebound.

I never could have imagined this one precious boy would not only give me my life and independence back, but also help mend heart and spirit.

Every person at PADS, is so kind and compassionate they really do feel like family. Words could never express what my overflowing heart feels."
