Blazer accompanied us on a walk through downtown Calgary and on to Prince’s Island Park, where we had dinner on the beautiful patio at the River Café. Blazer was intrigued by the parkade and the elevator ride out in the glass elevator. He was very good at walking on the grated sidewalks. I don’t think he realized what he was walking on, but he knew it felt different on his feet. We encountered a lot of people and dogs out enjoying the beautiful evening, and Blazer did very well keeping his focus on me. He wanted to meet the Canada Geese up close and personal, but I made sure that didn’t happen! When we arrived at the restaurant, Blazer was treated like a rock star and laid down under our table to watch the comings and goings.
July heated up very quickly, making walks difficult. We spent most days keeping cool in the basement and emerged in the evening when it was cooler for walks and backyard scatter feeding. Blazer loves water, so we got him a puppy pool. He couldn’t quite figure out why the sides were so high. He did eventually manage to get in, but it didn’t excite him as much as the river did.
We attended a Stampede breakfast at our local mall, and Blazer got his own cup of scrambled eggs to enjoy. He loved watching all of the kids running around and wished that he could join them. We took him to the petting zoo to watch the sheep, goats and ponies from outside the fence. He was curious about what these other animals were but was content to observe from the sidelines.
The Willow Park Charity Golf Classic was the big event of the month for Blazer. We were taken out on the course in a golf cart, where he was able to meet and greet the tournament participants. He loved all of the attention and was on his best behaviour even though it was a bit warm for him. He did well staying calm with all of the people wanting to meet him.
