Blazer started June with a short stay with a sitter. I was a bit unsure of how he would be because he is a rather strong-willed pup. As it happened, my concerns were unnecessary. He was well-behaved and as mannerly as a baby puppy can be. He went on a few field trips with his sitter and got to play with a new dog friend, which I’m sure was the high point of his time there.

Blazer came with us on a few trips out of town. A trip to my parents is always a favourite with him. Nothing beats a large yard to run around in for an active pup. We also spent a full day in Canmore, where he was on his best behaviour when we stopped for lunch. His β€˜off switch’ was perfection in the restaurant, even when a stranger approached him from behind and snuck in a pat. As a reward for his good behaviour and because it was one of the few warm days we’ve had, he got to take a little dip in the Bow River. We found a calm, shallow place for Blazer to go in, and he wasted no time splashing, leaping and bounding through the water. Thankfully, he isn’t much bigger, or I would have been pulled into the river with him. The smell of wet, tired and happy puppy accompanied us in the car all the way home.

Another highlight of Blazer’s month was getting a Pup Patty or three from A&W. They had a promotion where the proceeds from the sale of the unseasoned patties would go to support service dog training organizations in Canada. Of course, Blazer was more than willing to do his part.

Blazer has been growing by leaps and bounds. He has grown out of his roly-poly puppy body and has lost his baby face. He graduated to a larger cape and a larger collar this month. He is showing great improvement in his loose leash walking and in his ability to stay calm and quiet. He is still full of puppy antics, but he gets a bit more mature with each day. One thing I’m sure he will never outgrow is his ability to charm people everywhere.
