DUNE ll | February 2024

I started the month with a β€œWalk & Talk”; it’s a public access test. One of my raisers walked with me while our trainer guided us on different paths. I walked through a shopping mall and neighbourhood. All the while they were watching me closely to see how I managed each segment. I walked up and down stairs. I negotiated the glass elevator. I walked through the mall and a small, yet busy big-box store. We made a pit stop in the Food Court and I settled under a table. We walked through the children’s play area. Later, we went outside and visited a community playground. We navigated sidewalks and walked, at a distance, in the presence of other dogs. And I did it all calmly and respectfully.

I must confess, that not everything this month went smoothly. I am an adolescent dog and my hormones are on a wild ride! I can be a perfect gentleman one day and a complete rascal the next. Each time I wake up it’s like I’m a different dog. The good news is that my team is consistent (even when I’m not) and guide me to more predictable behaviours. I am beyond excited to see the other PADS pups in class and focussing is a challenge. My raisers listen carefully to the trainer. What I can’t manage in class we practice with fewer distractions in the following days.

IN OTHER NEWS:

It’s like going to camp when I’m with my puppy-sitter and I got to stay with her for a week this month. We are practicing up for a longer visit in the spring.

My friends at Dairy Queen gave me a pup-cup. I decided quickly that ice cream was delicious!

I enjoy sharing these updates with you. Will I see you next month?

Love,
Dune
