January arrived, and with it some colder weather that produced a week of pretty spectacular hoar frost. I took Maren for a walk up Nose Hill on one of those frosty days, and we were treated to some amazing views. She was quite taken with the cyclist she noticed making his way through the valley, and we stood watching until he left our sight. We had just come from a coffee date with PADS Chorcha and her raiser, Jen. Both puppies were more interested in playing with each other than lying calmly under a table, but they did remarkably well despite that.
Fortunately, the cold weather didn’t last too long, and we had a warmer day to romp with nine other PADS pups at a private off-leash area. This was Maren’s first off-leash experience and her first playdate. Her recall was very good, even with the distraction of other dogs. She also learned a few valuable lessons from some of the older and wiser dogs when she got a bit overbearing with them. Maren was so worn out after her playdate that she slept all the way home in the car, and then slept the rest of the day away when we arrived back home.
Maren came with us on outings to the library, grocery stores and Costco. She also visited my parents with us, and tried as hard as she could to stay awake so she wouldn’t miss anything. Eventually, her eyes got too heavy, and sleep won out for a bit while we ate dinner.
