Maren and her sister, PADS Beckett, arrived at YYC late on the evening of September 25. We brought her home to meet released PADS Blazer, who would become her best buddy over the next month until it was time for him to go to his forever home. After raising three boisterous PADS boys, it’s been fun to have a little girl around.
She is a clever pup and learns new things quickly. In the beginning, she was a little cautious playing big dog games with Blazer, but it didn’t take her long to understand the rules, and she became a force to be reckoned with. They both looked forward to their bitey face time and backyard frolics with some kibble thrown in for good measure.
Maren’s first outing was to Home Depot, where she posed like a pro in front of a Halloween display. She was completely unconcerned with the mummy cat behind her, ready to pounce. She also joined us while we voted in Calgary’s municipal election. The line was longer than normal, and she waited so patiently while everyone in line adored her and commented on her excellent behaviour. Maren spent Thanksgiving with my family. It was a big day for her with a mini road trip, a huge yard to play in, and meeting the people who are already her biggest fans. She attended puppy classes – the Halloween class being the most fun, where she went as Darth Maren, the PADS Calgary Town Hall, and the vet for a check-up and vaccinations.
She met Blazer’s bestie, PADS Astro, when he came for a playdate where she tried to keep up with the big boys. She did remarkably well for a little girl who is a fraction of their size. Blazer’s final day with us came at the end of October, and he and Maren got unlimited play time together until his new family arrived to pick him up. Maren was as excited to see them as Blazer was, but she had no idea why. I guess she thought that if Blazer was excited, she should be too. We will miss him, but are thrilled that he will live his best life with his new family.
Maren has adapted well to being the only dog in the house. She gets the dog beds to herself, which makes her happy because there is nothing like taking a running leap into them!
