I enjoyed the warm, sunny days this month, making the most of the good weather by exploring new places both in and out of cape. The month kicked off with a training session at the mall alongside a group of PADS pups and their raisers. It was an exciting challenge to be surrounded by so many other dogs in a place where I usually don’t see them! We practiced parallel walking, ‘go-ins’ under tables and benches, and settling around each other while shoppers admired us as they walked by. My raiser told me I did very well—especially since dog distractions are one of the big things we’ve been working on. Hey, I can’t help it—I just want to be friends with everyone! After all that training, I got to let off some steam at the dog park with PADS Fawn and PADS Sawyer.
This month also brought celebrations, as one of my raisers had a birthday! I was invited to join the fun, tagging along for a birthday brunch at a restaurant and later for dinner at their parents’ house. We also ventured downtown, taking in the seawall on a busy, sunny afternoon and visiting Granville Island. We stopped for lunch, where I managed to settle under the patio table (and even caught a few zzz’s!), and then hopped on a little ferry ride. I was told I handled all the new experiences like a pro! One funny moment this month was when I was mistaken for a gym bag while I was settled beside equipment at the gym. My raisers thought it was funny and were very proud—I guess blending in is a good thing? I’m still figuring that one out.
Outside of my public training, I had plenty of outdoor adventures, exploring new trails with my raisers and visiting the nearby dog beach a few times! It’s quickly become my favourite spot to meet new pals, though I’m still not totally convinced about this whole swimming thing. I love chasing other dogs into the water, but I haven’t quite mastered the doggy paddle yet. For now, I stick to the shallow areas, hopping in and out as I please. Maybe by summer, I’ll finally be swimming!
Thanks for checking in!
