Hi there. My name is Skaha, and I’m a female Labrador Retriever training to become a Pacific Assistance Dog. I’m living my best puppy life in Kelowna, BC, with my amazing raisers. This is my very first monthly update, and I’m excited to share a little bit about my December adventures and progress.

I joined my raisers on December 4th after spending about 10 days with a sitter following my time with my littermates. Since arriving, I’ve been working hard on learning lots of new skills. So far, I’ve started mastering cues like β€œhealing,” β€œside,” β€œdown,” β€œsit,” and β€œperch.” I’ve also been practicing coming when called (β€œthis way”), staying in place, and walking politely on a loose leash. I’m getting the hang of it all, but there’s always room to grow.

December was a month of firsts for me. I experienced snow for the very first timeβ€”it’s cold, fluffy, and so much fun to play in. I also celebrated my first Christmas, which was extra special because I turned three months old on Christmas Day. My raisers made it a memorable celebration by gifting me a cozy sweater, some awesome chew toys, a tug toy, and a couple of stuffies.

I’m growing fast, too. At my 12-week vaccination appointment, I weighed in at 24 pounds. Aside from the vet visit, I’ve had a lot of exciting outings this month. I visited my wonderful sponsors, Doane Grant Thornton, at their office in Kelowna, where they gave me some lovely gifts. I also attended a Vernon Vipers hockey game, where I helped raise funds for the PADS program. Plus, I explored several stores throughout the month, getting used to different environments and meeting lots of friendly people.

Looking ahead, I can’t wait for weekly puppy classes in January. I’m excited to reunite with my puppy pals and see how everyone’s skills are coming along. Stay tuned for more updates, I’m just getting started on this incredible journey.
