Hey everyone, it’s me, Skaha, checking in from Kelowna with my 14-month update. November started as a pretty cozy month for me, as I continued recovering from my spay surgery, which meant lots of rest, gentle walks, and showing off my very fashionable post-surgery pyjamas a little longer.

On November 11th, I proudly donned my poppy for Remembrance Day to honour our veterans. My poppy looked really sharp on my yellow cape.

Fall stuck around for most of the month, so I spent lots of time trotting through crunchy leaves and making sure every pile was properly inspected by my certified Labrador nose.

Indoors, my new favourite nap spot has become right in front of the fireplace; nothing beats warm paws and a toasty snoot while I drift off after a long day of doing “important dog things.”

Bath time took a little twist this month, too. No bathtub this time, but a shower instead, and guess what? I loved it. All that warm water raining down on me felt like my own personal doggy spa.

I also got to go to work with one of my raisers this month, and I did a really good job staying calm and settling where I was supposed to while they worked. Apparently, being quiet and patient is a “skill,” and I’ll take the compliment.

Speaking of skills, for my training this month, I’ve been practicing “jump on/off,” sit, down, stand, and sharpening my dog-distraction skills. I’m still working on staying calm when I see other dogs, but I’m getting better every week.

I also had a trip to get my eyes checked with a bunch of my PADS buddies. They put drops in my eyes that made my vision all wonky for a little while; everything got really bright and funny-looking, but then it went back to normal. I was told they needed my eyes dilated so they could do the test properly. I think everything went well.

As the end of the month approached, so did the arrival of a little bit of snow. I’d forgotten how much fun it was to run around in it, and for the next few months, I’ll have lots more chances to play in it.

At the end of the month, my family went away again, so I stayed with the same awesome sitter as last time. But with a fun little twist, I also had a one-night side adventure at another raiser’s home, where I got to visit and play with PADS Shyloh. She’s only 8 months old, so I stepped into my big sister role, showing her the ropes, keeping her company, and the two of us burned off some energy. We had a great overnight visit full of playtime and cuddles.

That’s it for me this month, until next time… Skaha out.
