Hey everyone, it’s me, Skaha, your friendly neighbourhood Labrador and proud PADS dog in training, checking in from Kelowna, BC. This month was a big one for me; I officially turned one year old on September 25. Yep, I’m a whole year old now. Hard to believe how far my siblings and I have come from the Okanagan Provincial Parks litter since those tiny puppy days. Turning one came with a little celebration too, my raisers made sure I got a few extra birthday treats, and let’s just say I didn’t leave a single crumb behind.

The month started off a little slow since I was still wrapping up my heat protocol. That meant no public outings in my PADS cape and no puppy classes for the first week. After five weeks off, though, I was finally cleared to get back to business. It felt so good to be reunited with all my Okanagan PADS buddies and to see what they’ve been learning, and for me to show them what I’d been working on. I think my “home-schooling” paid off pretty well, if I do say so myself.

Later in the month, my raisers went away for a bit, so I got to have a mini-vacation of my own with some amazing sitters. They took such good care of me and made sure I stayed busy. We went on some hikes and even spent some time out on a golf course. I’m not sure why humans spend hours chasing a tiny ball around, but it looked like fun… and that grass? Perfect for lying on and supervising.

I’m continuing to work hard on my training both in class and at home, and feeling confident, focused, and ready to take on whatever new skills come next.

That’s it for my one-year-old update. Next month, the weather will start to cool down, the leaves will fall, and I’ll get to crunch my way through piles of them.

Until next month, stay cozy and keep those tails wagging. Skaha out.
