October was a month of growing discipline for Smaug, the kind where all his earlier work started coming together with a new layer of maturity. His perch, back up, and touch are holding steady and becoming second nature, which freed us up to master another: impulse control.
He’s learning that just because he can move doesn’t mean he should. Waiting calmly, holding position, and thinking before acting have been big themes this month—and he’s handled them with impressive focus (and only a few side-eyes of protest).
All the polish from past months is starting to show through: cleaner transitions, steadier energy, and a more thoughtful working style. Smaug’s starting to look less like a puppy learning the ropes and more like the service dog he’s going to be.
