This was my first full month with Teddy and he has quickly shown what a great guy he is! He has been working so hard on loose leash walking and will now automatically correct his position with and without leash pressure. We have been sticking to lower distraction areas but plan to go to more challenging areas this month. In class, he was challenged with being off-leash around other dogs while staying focused on his handler and he did amazing. He was largely unfazed by the other dogs and distractions. Additionally, we have been polishing up his heel command and building value in his being in this position. He has been working hard on cooperative care and now will roll onto his side and stay there until being released.
We ventured to the local arena to test his behaviour in public and I was so proud of him. He maintained a loose leash and was focused only on me. He was quick to settle while we watched some curling and hockey.
He has been fully integrated into the house with the other dogs. Teddy is very respectful of them and is always up for a good play session outside. We went to a private off-leash park a couple of times this month and he had a blast running, exploring and sniffing.
This coming month, we are going to challenge and test his skills more. This includes going to areas with more dogs and more public outings. I am really enjoying having Teddy and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next month.
