ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis (Ktunaxa), Ĩyãħé Nakón mąkóce (Stoney), Niitsítpiis-stahkoii ᖹᐟᒧᐧᐨᑯᐧ ᓴᐦᖾᐟ (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ), Tsuut’ina & Michif Piyii (Métis) Nations, and the Syilx Okanagan People.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

🐶 Pupdate: Meet PADS Bonnie II!

Bonnie is a 4-month-old PADS pup in training. Despite being named for an outlaw, she's a sweet, playful, confident girl who loves her big sister PADS Tiki. She's currently working on all things puppy, and is rocking at it! She's already nailed visiting patios and cafes, and even joined Campus Canines at UBC Imagine Day (she was a big hit).

Yellow vests for yellow puppies 💛 The eight pups from the “In Loving Memory of Sharon Tokar” Litter each donned their adorable yellow vest last week, marking the start of their puppy-raising journeys.

PADS Bryn II, Chorcha, Glover, Jasper III, Kyree, Pixie II, Riff, and Zuby all met their puppy raisers or sitters last Friday and are now settling into their new homes.

Each one of these future heroes is ready to make a difference, just like their litter's namesake, Sharon Tokar.

Not all disabilities visible from the outside. During Invisible Disabilities Week, we honour those living with disabilities that may not be immediately seen.

Invisible Disabilities Week aims to bring awareness and education about invisible disabilities. It's a reminder that disabilities can impact lives in various ways, and that the way someone looks does not define their capabilities. We encourage everyone to listen and learn from those with disabilities, visible and invisible, and to approach differences with kindness and curiosity, rather than assumptions.

We’re going back to PADS basics and today we’re spotlighting our incredible Accredited Facility Dogs!

PADS Accredited Facility Dogs, or AFDs, work with community care professionals to support healthy communities. Their work often involves supporting vulnerable people in places such as schools, victim services, child and youth advocacy programs, and hospices. They can also work to support people in high-stress occupations, such as paramedics and first-responders.

Unlike a service dog who will give life-changing support to one client throughout their career, AFDs support many people and often leave their pawprints on hearts far and wide 💙
