ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis (Ktunaxa), Ĩyãħé Nakón mąkóce (Stoney), Niitsítpiis-stahkoii ᖹᐟᒧᐧᐨᑯᐧ ᓴᐦᖾᐟ (Blackfoot / Niitsítapi ᖹᐟᒧᐧᒣᑯ), Tsuut’ina & Michif Piyii (Métis) Nations, and the Syilx Okanagan People.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

Ole and Bee have traded in their PADS vests for a new adventure with our friends at @ofpcanada!

These two are headed to Vancouver Island where they'll join a 48-week training program, and become supportive partners to clients who need them. Congratulations Ole and Bee - we can't wait to see where your new journeys take you.

When PADS Nova’s client first met Nova, she was expecting a dog who could alert her to the sounds she could not hear. What she didn’t expect were the ripple effects that Nova has had on her life. ‘Because of her, I no longer have to constantly look over my shoulder,’ Nova’s partner reports. ‘I can sleep peacefully knowing she’ll wake me if there’s an alarm in the night. Even the general public tends to be more patient and understanding when Nova is by my side.’

Did you know that November is Indigenous Disability Awareness Month? Recognized across Western Canada, this month is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Indigenous people with disabilities, as well as bring awareness to the barriers this community can face.

Happy Halloween from our tiniest PADS pumpkins 🎃

We hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween! To ensure that the only frights are those from haunted houses, here's some safety tips to keep in mind:

🎃 Considering moving your candy station curb-side so that everyone can enjoy their trick-or-treating experience! Steps, steep inclines, or narrow pathways can create barriers for some.
🎃 For nervous pets (or people), make sure to provide a quiet and calm space away from the front door during peak trick-or-treating hours
🎃 Make sure your pet costumes are comfy and well-fitting, and don't hinder your pet's movement.
🎃 Keep human treats out of reach of your canine companions. Chocolate, raisins, and anything with xylitol are harmful for dogs. Grab your furry friends their own spooky themed treats from your local pet store (if you're in the Lower Mainland, we love our friends at @bigdoglittledogbakery)

🐶 Pupdate: Meet PADS Bonnie II!

Bonnie is a 4-month-old PADS pup in training. Despite being named for an outlaw, she's a sweet, playful, confident girl who loves her big sister PADS Tiki. She's currently working on all things puppy, and is rocking at it! She's already nailed visiting patios and cafes, and even joined Campus Canines at UBC Imagine Day (she was a big hit).
