Happy Summer!

This is a long-overdue pupdate on PADS Bee, who is having a very interesting and adventurous summer. Sheโ€™s just gone into her second heat cycle, which has come with big feelings. That said, Bee has really matured over the past few months. Sheโ€™s become calmer, settles more easily, and is growing into a wonderfully companionable dog. Weโ€™re confident sheโ€™ll be an incredible helper and partner for someone someday.

Sheโ€™s still quite petite and delicate, which only adds to her charm. Out in public, sheโ€™s consistently well-behaved, and even without her cape, people often comment on how impressively trained she is.

Beeโ€™s biggest challenge this summer? Adjusting to full-time boat life!

It took her a few days to figure out how to toilet on the boat, but she got the hang of it. (She did temporarily forget during the start of her heat, but sheโ€™s right back on track now.)

At first, she was a little unsure about all the new sights and sounds, but now she gets excited to put on her life vest and hop into the dinghy for beach walks and shore trips. Sheโ€™s even learned to settle herself so she doesnโ€™t get bumped by the oarsโ€”clever girl.

Being on the water has also helped minimize any accidental romantic encounters with other dogs, though she does gaze longingly at them while safely tethered to the deck.

These days, one of her favourite things to do is lie on the deck, sniff the salt air, and watch the activity onshore. She loves beach walks, tooโ€”though we have to keep a close eye on her because sheโ€™s developed a taste for old crab shells.

All in all, Bee is having quite the summer adventure. And itโ€™s well-deservedโ€”this fall, sheโ€™ll be heading back to work in the classroom. After all, even service dogs in training need a little vacation now and then.
