Team Iris II retires
A long career and a lasting legacyAt the end of the 2024/25 school year, PADS AFD Iris II retired from duty. Read about her incredible impact below, in the words of her partner, Lisa.
Iris’s Incredible Impact
After years of unwavering dedication, Iris—our beloved PADS Accredited Facility Dog—is officially retiring, leaving behind paw prints on the hearts of over 2,500 students, staff, and families at Scott Creek Middle School and beyond. With her calm presence, playful spirit, and intuitive nature, Iris did far more than just brighten classrooms—she became a trusted friend, a source of comfort, and an irreplaceable part of our school family. From easing anxious hearts with a gentle nudge to spreading smiles in her many creative costumes, Iris was always ready to serve—whether on campus, starring in feel-good “talking dog” videos during the COVID lockdown, or offering quiet support as a vital member of the Coquitlam School District’s Critical Incident Response Team.
Now, Iris is trading school bells for belly rubs and recess duty for sunny naps. Though she’s officially hung up her vest, her legacy will live on in the countless lives she’s touched. Her impact was made possible not just by her incredible spirit, but also by the generous efforts of her PADS raisers, trainers, and all who supported her journey. We are deeply grateful—and incredibly proud—to have walked alongside her. Thank you, Iris, for your years of selfless service. You’ve healed hearts, lifted spirits, and reminded us all of the power of unconditional love that dogs bring into all of our lives.
Enjoy your well-earned retirement—you’ve more than earned it.
