ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

Today is an important day to pause and consider how mental health impacts each of us, and how—as individuals and organizations—we can improve wellness in our communities.

We're proud of the work our Assistance Dogs do to support health and wellness.

We're also grateful for those that partner with us to make such a huge difference, our amazing volunteers of course, but also our donors. Especially our community partners like the True Patriot Love Foundation who provide funding to ensure we can place more life-changing PTSD dogs.

Congratulations to our newest Accredited Facility Dog Team - Anthony and PADS Benji.

❤️ "Anthony recently shared with us, "I am very excited to have Benji join Centennial Secondary! He’s smart, inquisitive, loving, and gentle. He very much likes to be petted by all and he enjoys the close proximity to people which makes him perfect for a school setting."

🐾 "Benji and I have spent the past week and a half getting to know each other here at Centennial. He makes my job as a Principal so much better as he enables me to have better connections with students. Most of all, he has this incredible ability to make children smile and brighten up their day. We’re so excited to have him as a part of our team!"

Late last year we ran a draw to name two of our new puppies, as a way of thanking those who donated to the medical emergency fund to help PADS Quixley. Well, John and Barb were one of the lucky winners and they choose the name Lulu!

❤️ John shares with us that "Lulu was named in honour of a sweet chocolate lab who passed away in the fall of 2022. Lulu lived a full and wonderful life in Whistler and was a friend to both our first Lab, Timber, and Brass (Retired PADS - Breeding Male). Lulu was a "bridge" between Timber and Brass and for that reason she held a special place in our hearts."

🐾 Thank you John and Barb for such a lovely tribute, and for your generous and ongoing support for the PADS community!

Today's #DogOfTheDay is PADS Teddy II, who has been named by Sarah, one of our dedicated volunteers.

Sarah shares with us that "Teddy II is named after my dad, Ted McLean, who passed on in 2016 from ALS. As his disease progressed, we all became acutely aware of the challenges that exist for persons with disabilities."

She goes on to explain how "having the opportunity to volunteer and support an organization that focusses on aiding those with mobility challenges, just feels right. And my dad loved animals - cats and dogs. While he didn’t have the chance to meet any of the dogs I raised for PADS, both #PADSWilbur and #PADSCana would have loved him. And he would have loved them, and found a way for both to be lap dogs - even 80-pound Wilbur!"

❤️ Thank you Sarah for such a wonderful tribute.
