Communication Team Signup

The PADS Communications Team is seeking volunteers that wish to help with building PADS reputation and programs through fun and fantastic activities, campaigns, materials and technology.

While we encourage those with communications experience to sign up, we also welcome those that simply want to provide feedback on new materials before they are distributed to broader audiences.

ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

We are thrilled to announce our newest team! Everyone, meet Ross and Freya! 💙✨

Ross shared his story on how this partnership came to be! 🐕🐾

"Freya and I have been ‘matched’ for several years, first as a puppy in training and then as a PADS breeding dog. It was after Freya had completed her career as a breeding dog and was going to remain as part of our family that I realized how much of a calming, positive, and supportive influence she provided me when she was out with me in the vest. And so, I reached out to PADS to see if Freya could be considered for yet another career and be my service dog.

Well as they say, “The rest is history”. With PADS support and Val and Margaret’s encouragement and coaching we worked on honing and learning new skills, completed our Public Access, recently finished Team Training, and have earned our blue vest.

I received this quote from a former colleague - “Police work. You get into it to change the world. You get out of it changed by the world.” With Freya along my side, I have the confidence to venture out into my changed world knowing she will be there with her bright eyes, helicopter tail, and wet nose to help me through difficult times."

Kennel training begins with building positive associations. Make the kennel a safe space for your pup to sleep and relax. Place toys, blankets, and treats inside, allowing them to explore on their own. Remember to reward your pup when they enter the kennel voluntarily by offering treats. 🐶💛

Feed your pup in the kennel to strengthen this positive connection. Gradually extend the time they spend in the kennel with long-lasting treats like a Kong or snuffle mat, while staying nearby to monitor. ⭐🐾

As they adjust, create distance by doing chores or being in the next room, so your pup gains confidence independently. Eventually, leave the kennel door open, encouraging them to see it as a safe space to unwind and relax. 🦴💤

We're proud to announce that last month, PADS Milan officially retired. Her journey as an Accredited Facility Dog (AFD) took her across Canada, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered. 💙🇨🇦
