ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with physical disabilities other than blindness. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

🎉Congratulations to Sierra and @freedomservicedogs Chorizo and to Breeder-Caretakers Marie & Jocelyn for your capable hands and caring hearts. We also want to give a shout-out to Tara who ended her vacation early to fill in as a last-minute substitute "mid-woof." Stay tuned for the name announcement coming soon!

To kick off our first MOVE Monday -- meet MOVERS Tia & PADS Merlot of Team How-Merlot-Can-You-Go!

🐶 Accredited Facility Dog PADS Merlot and Tia work together for the Regina Police Service (@reginapolice) and are based out of the Regina Children’s Justice Centre (RCJC). The RCJC is an integrated unit consisting of Police and the Ministry of Social Services.

🏋️ Tia and Merlot have been fundraising for MOVE since July and have raised an impressive $4,665!! They are already more than halfway to their goal of raising $7000.00! PAW-some Work TEAM!!

👮 If you are wondering how they came up with this number, then who better to explain then Tia and Merlot, themselves:

"Merlot has worked for the Regina Police Service for 7 years. In those 7 years, through Interviews, Court Preps, Court, and Critical Incident Stress Management briefings, we have encountered approx. 1000 people. We will walk/row/run (I will leave the swimming to the dogs), 7 km a day to keep moving and raise money and awareness for all the amazing work PADS and their dogs do."

August 7-13th is International Assistance Dog Week – a special time to recognize, appreciate, and honour all the devoted, hardworking assistance dogs that support individuals with disabilities every day! It is also an opportunity to celebrate the important individuals at "the other end of the leash" – the people or groups that make assistance dogs happen (volunteers, donors, staff, clients, etc.).

Will you join us in celebrating International Assistance Dog Week?

How will you honour your Assistance Dog Hero?

We look forward to hearing your stories this week of how Assistance Dogs and their villages have touched your life. Please share and tag us!

Congratulations to our newest Accredited Facility Dog Team! Coordinator Lindsay recently welcomed PADS Sarabi to the Child Advocacy Centre at the @sanarecentre in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Lindsay says, "Sarabi will be assisting me in my work with children and youth who have experienced severe physical abuse, neglect, and sexual trauma. She will join me in greeting and welcoming clients into the centre and will provide emotional support to children and youth during the Forensic Interview process as well as be available when they need to testify in court. Sarabi has quickly become a beloved member of our team at Sanare. The impact has reached far beyond the children, youth, and families we serve in that she also contributes to staff wellness. When staff need a quick cuddle, Sarabi is quick to give a hug or gently lay her head on their lap. We are so thankful to PADS for entrusting us with this sweet angel with fur and are so excited to see the impact Sarabi will make with our clients in her new role!"
