MEET OUR MOVERS: TEAM PEDALLING FOR PADS

How they are Moving

Starting  in August  Lauren will cycle from the PADS Burnaby Campus to the Calgary Training Centre to raise awareness and much needed funds for PADS.

Why they are Moving

PADS is meaningful to Lauren as she has seen the love and effort which goes into raising, training, and matching these dogs with a human partner, changing lives in terrific ways.

Lauren is 64 years old and has been active her whole life in everything from basketball, football to just plain running.  When asked why she was moving for PADS Lauren writes:

“At this tender old age the things that my body still allows me to do are dwindling.  However, I have always had a love for cycling.  I used to think that it gave me freedom to go and the world.  When I learned about PADS service dogs, I thought of them as a way to give their human partners freedom.  The next natural step to me was to do a somewhat remarkable bike trip as a fundraiser for PADS.  That opportunity came along with the rise of Covid-19 and all organized events getting cancelled last.  I decided to do my own ride for PADS and it just so happened to coincide with first PADS Move event last year.  It was such a breat adventure that I decided to do it again.”

As a young girl, Lauren fondly recalls the sense of freedom she felt by riding her bike to the lake, a friend’s house, or just out to explore. It is that sense of freedom that makes PADS so special to Lauren, as she sees freedom afforded to people who are partnered with PADS dogs.  The team hopes to raise $35K enough to sponsor a graduate team.
