ABOUT PADS

PADS dogs are raised and trained on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded lands of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.

We acknowledge the importance of these lands and their history. We do this to reaffirm our commitment and responsibility in improving relationships between nations and to improving our own understanding of local Indigenous peoples and their cultures.

We breed, raise and train fully certified assistance dogs. Our service (mobility & PTSD) and hearing dogs provide life-changing independence to those with disabilities. Our accredited facility dogs work with community professionals, such as teachers, RCMP and psychologists to help support healthy communities.

PADS is a fully accredited member of Assistance Dogs International.

Today we pause and thank all those who have sacrificed so much for our country and freedom. We are honoured to serve those that have served us.

As we approach Remembrance Day we want to thank the many branches of the Royal Canadian Legion that have donated an incredible $160K to PADS in the past few years in support of our PTSD Program, which provides service dogs to veterans and those in active military service.

The impact these dogs have on their clients is beyond measure and we are honoured to be able to give back to those who gave us all so much.

The big day is almost here! Below are some tips to keep your pets safe and healthy this spooky season.

👻 Costume Considerations: Not all dogs love dressing up! If your pup has a costume, introduce it gradually, watching for signs of stress, like lip licking, shaking off, or turning away.

🚪 Doorway Demeanour: Create a quiet space away from the front door where they can relax during peak trick-or-treat hours. A cozy room or kennel out of sight can help them feel calm and secure.

🍫 Candy Caution: Halloween treats can be dangerous for dogs. Keep all candy, especially chocolate and anything containing xylitol, well out of reach.

🎃 Decor Details: Keep candles and jack-o'-lanterns with open flames safely out of reach from curious noses and wagging tails.

🐾 Community Cares: Share your pet Halloween safety tips below to help keep everyone safe and happy!

Join us in welcoming PADS Marni from Freedom Service Dogs in Colorado. Fun fact: her dad is our very own PADS Goji! 🐾

This sweet little pup is named in honour of our dear friend and longest-serving volunteer, Marni Hartnell. An accomplished artist, many of Marni's works are proudly displayed in the homes of our volunteers.

PADS Marni met her new Puppy-Raisers, Amanda and Conrad, last week and has begun her journey to becoming a life-changing assistance dog.
