Today is an extra Marvellous Monday - long-time ra Today is an extra Marvellous Monday - long-time raiser Heather Cochrane joined our team today as a Puppy Program Apprentice!⠀
⠀
You may recognize Heather as Puppy-Raiser of Accredited Facility Dog Hero, PADS Greco or her newest pup PADS Tira (pictured!). ⠀
⠀
In her new role, Heather will assist the other members of the Puppy Department by co-ordinating non-urgent veterinary care, answering the emergency phone and providing training support as she works towards having her own cohort of dogs and raisers to train. We know that Heather's natural organization skills, passion for PADS, work ethic, and thirst for learning will serve her well in this role.⠀
⠀
When asked what career she'd choose if she was a PADS dog Heather says that she would likely be a mobility service dog or re-careered to do scent detection!⠀
⠀
#FunFact - Heather may get affectionately get dubbed "Cochrane" amongst the PADS staff - we now have 3 Heather's, two of which are within the puppy program!⠀
⠀
⠀
Please join us in welcoming Heather in the comments below!⠀

Meet Dana, Puppy Raising Supervisor for the Lower Meet Dana, Puppy Raising Supervisor for the Lower Mainland and one of our extraordinary puppy class instructors!⠀
Dana has been working with PADS since 2016. The first PADS dog Dana worked with as a staff member was Watson who is now an amazing PADS VIP. ⠀
⠀
If Dana was a PADS dog she says she would be a demo dog! "I would get to teach people and dogs, and share all the amazing things PADS dogs can do!" This should come as no surprise to anyone who has seen her perform with her own dogs in the Superdogs! We're so lucky to have Dana's diverse training experience and talents on our team.⠀
⠀
#FunFact - watch for Dana her boy Zephyr in the Marmaduke movie as they play freestyle disc at Van Dusen Botanical Gardens

Meet Chantelle and PADS Puppy and Training Scooby! Meet Chantelle and PADS Puppy and Training Scooby! Chantelle is a second-time puppy raiser who describes her current pup as ⠀
⠀
S- Sweet⠀
C - Cheeky⠀
O - On Fleek⠀
O - Opinionated⠀
B - Beguiled⠀
Y - Youthful⠀
⠀
Chantelle was drawn to PADS by her love of dogs, stayed at PADS due to her passion to help create a world that was more accessible for everyone. ⠀
⠀
In her own words, Chanelle writes ⠀
⠀
"Moving to Vancouver meant leaving a “job” as a developmental aide for a little girl living with Cerebral Palsy that I absolutely loved. Working with her brought light to how inaccessible our world can be which fueled my passion to try to create a world that was more accessible for everyone.⠀
⠀
When I was younger, I took this responsibility on solo, as I grew older, however, I realized I couldn’t change the world alone, but I could use my passion to create small waves of change. That’s what led me to PADS.⠀
⠀
Raising a puppy might be a small drop in the ocean of positive movements I see every day that are slowly making our world more accessible to all. But if that puppy graduates that little drop might be enough to fill up someone’s glass. ⠀
⠀
I came to PADS excited to have the chance to raise a little fluffy potato, but as it goes, I am still here because of the people. Raising a puppy can be challenging at times, but the wholehearted support of the other volunteers and staff members helps make the challenging days a little less defeating, the scary days a little brighter, and the tearful goodbyes at the end of a puppies journey a little less heartbreaking (or just covered up with wine and sugar but I hear it helps mend the heart). The PADS village is genuinely the salt of this earth and I couldn’t imagine my life in Vancouver without them!" ⠀

This Wellness Wednesday, PADS Amora would like to This Wellness Wednesday, PADS Amora would like to remind everyone to take time for a good nap now and then.⠀
#DidYouKnow that purebred Labradors don't just come in black, yellow and chocolate? ⠀
⠀
Sometimes they have Black and Tan (Agouti) or Brindle colouring... and if they are extra special like Amora - they have both! While it might not earn her ribbons in the local dog show, it certainly doesn't prevent her from being a healthy, beautiful and helpful assistance dog. We are very curious to see how Amora's colour matures as she grows!⠀
